An Eid Mubarak Letter

Three months ago, I had only three months left until my admission exams. Three months later, I’m sitting in the exact same place. Now, I have only three months left. Again.

Today, on this Eid day, after finishing all the ‘after-Kurbani’ chores, I am sitting down to write while waiting for lunch to be prepared. Even though my family doesn't consider me a grown-up yet, I sat with the seniors and—ইংরেজিতে মাংস কোপানোকে কী বলে?—did that for the first time in my life. Now I know how to cut solid meat and liver. I don’t quite understand how to scale and divide the portions yet, but I think I can wait until next year to learn that part.

Today is the second day of Eid. I’m planning to buy some plants from Barishal Nursery or Cactus Valley. But NO MORE CACTI AND SUCCULENTS!! I think I’ve bought more types of cacti than I actually know the names of other plants. Cacti are boring. They grow so slowly that sometimes you just forget they even exist in your room. Some of 'em don't even need water. And boom, one day you’ll find parts of one rotting away under your fridge. I’ll aim lower this time. Maybe a money plant? I’ve heard they bring good luck. Besides, I don’t really know any other plant names.

Oh! I’ve also started learning sign language. I watched the movie A Silent Voice a couple of months ago and got inspired to pick it up. It’s actually really fun. I’ll be able to talk to anyone with hearing difficulties from now on, but most importantly, it’ll give me a strategic advantage during exams.

• Podcast: The Trinomial Podcast Do I really need to introduce these three most exciting and intellectual YouTubers in Bangladesh?
• Game: PingPongFury I hadn't kept any games on my phone for over a year. I used to think most mobile games were trash and so addicting that I'd just waste my time on them. I think I was wrong, and I've recently started exploring a few. PingPongFury is basically a table tennis game. You play ping-pong against opponents using your finger. Sounds lame, right? It isn’t. The matches get ridiculously intense. Besides, I really like how smoothly the multiplayer system works. Look away for one second, and you’ll lose for sure.
