On this writeup I shared my sudden obsession with indoor plants after falling into a 20-hour YouTube rabbit hole. Alongside detailing my recent nursery haul of rare philodendrons and ZZ plants, I also share my dad's humorous reactions and my experiences managing a house full of pets like my bird, Pagla Molom.
Okay, so...
I have been watching way too many YouTube videos lately. By "too many," I mean more than 20 hours of watch time on only one topic: indoor plants. It all started with The Trinomial Podcast that I’ve mentioned previously, but YouTube’s UI is so user-friendly that I had to fall into the trap of interactive looping, again.
I went to two nurseries that day and bought five beautiful plants. I got a considerably big Areca Palm, two ZZ plants, and one bright yellow plant that almost looks like a Lemon Lime Philodendron. But after some research, I found out it’s a rare type of philodendron that grows only in some selected areas. After learning about it, I propagated a little branch from that plant. If I were the seller, I’d have charged myself at least double the amount. But the seller was kind enough to even gift me another seedling that I don’t know much about yet.
I don’t know how or where I got the inspiration to start keeping plants in my house. But I think it is nice and relaxing to have random living things in your space so that you can just admire them sometimes. Although my father—whose name on my phone is saved as ‘Baker Bhai’, by the way—stated today:
“This house finally looks wholesome now. All these years it only had two cattle. Now it has other important entities too.”
Not gonna lie, my birds are liking the plants too. Pagla Molom tries to eat the leaves of the Areca, but hey, that’s her choice, right?
I’m writing this because I want you to know the fun I’m having, even in this otherwise mundane routine. You should try getting a pet or a plant of your own. You can learn a lot from a cat. Or even from a plant.
I’m no botanist, but I surely know a bit about aquascaping and fish tanks. I know a bit about birds, too. So if you’re interested in buying a plant or maybe adopting a pet, hit me up! I can teach you the basics to keep your pets alive—at least properly. I literally own a zoo, so why not?
